North Korea's Unha-3 rocket placed two satellites into orbit amid international controversy.
Unha-3 (Galaxy-3) is a North Korean three-stage orbital launch vehicle. Its December 2012 launch successfully orbited the Kwangmyongsong-3 Unit 2 satellite, making North Korea only the tenth country to independently achieve orbital spaceflight. A 2016 launch placed the Kwangmyongsong-4 satellite in orbit. The launches were widely condemned internationally as covers for ballistic missile tests.
Fun facts
Unha-3 made North Korea the 10th country to independently reach orbit in December 2012.
UN Security Council resolutions condemned each launch as a violation of sanctions.
The rocket's stages were recovered from the sea and analysed by South Korean and US experts.
