Titan IV

Lockheed Martin / USAF

The United States' largest expendable military rocket, carrying reconnaissance satellites and the Cassini spacecraft.

Titan IV was the largest and most capable of the Titan family of rockets, used exclusively for US government payloads. It launched classified National Reconnaissance Office satellites, as well as notable scientific missions including the Cassini–Huygens Saturn probe and the Mars Observer. Its solid rocket motor upgrades (SRMUs) dramatically increased performance over earlier Titan variants.

Fun facts
Titan IV launched the Cassini–Huygens mission to Saturn in 1997 — a spacecraft that operated for 20 years.
Most Titan IV payloads were classified military reconnaissance satellites.
A Titan IV explosion in 1998 scattered $1.3 billion worth of classified satellite debris over Vandenberg.
