The modernized descendant of the R-7 — the rocket family with more flights than any other.

The Soyuz-2 is the latest evolution of the Soyuz family, itself derived from the R-7 ICBM that launched Sputnik in 1957. Variants 2.1a, 2.1b and the lighter 2.1v continue to serve crewed Soyuz capsules, Progress cargo, and a wide range of satellites. The R-7 lineage has flown more than 1,900 times — by far the most-used rocket family in history.

Fun facts
The Soyuz family descends from the R-7 rocket that launched Sputnik in 1957 — over 1,900 flights of one rocket lineage.
Soyuz was the only vehicle transporting humans to the ISS for 9 years (2011–2020) after the Space Shuttle retired.
More astronauts and cosmonauts have flown on Soyuz than on any other rocket in history.
