Atlas-Altair
Lockheed
A specialized Atlas E/F variant with an Altair-3A upper stage that launched three Stacksat spacecraft in 1990.
The Atlas-Altair was an expendable launch system built using parts from decommissioned SM-65 Atlas E/F missiles, paired with a small Altair-3A solid upper stage. It flew just once, successfully launching the Stacksat 1-3 and P87-2 payloads from Vandenberg in April 1990 — a niche configuration for small military and scientific payloads.
Fun facts
Flew a single mission and retired — one of the last small configurations of the Atlas family before modern Atlas II/III/V took over.
